![]() ![]() "Donation" on a panel is simply a word, used colloquially to mean 'gift'. This gets said all the time, but never by an actual tax attorney. ![]() Please don't consider yourself covered just because you put that on your Twitch page. The "donations are not refundable" had nothing to do with it. OP had information to disprove all of those claims through the chatlog and VOD. The most common ways to pursue a chargeback on PayPal are claiming the item was not as depicted, claiming the item was never delivered, or claiming you were not the one who used the card. For example, if you had an online store selling hats, and you said purchases were not refundable, people would still be able to reclaim their money if you sent them an empty box or a ripped hat or the wrong size or nothing at all. It doesn't mean "money I gave to someone else without getting something in return." You're not technically taking donations, so "donations are not refundable" doesn't apply to your stream.Ĭompanies that don't do refunds still get chargebacks. "Donations" means something specific in tax language and only applies to registered charities. The reason "donations are not refundable" doesn't do anything is because What is important is that you had the chat, the video, and the records to back up your claim that the guy was the one who intentionally sent through a payment. Putting "donations are not refundable" on your Twitch panels doesn't actually do anything. Stay safe streamers.Ĭan't believe no one has said this yet but. Remember to make it explicitly clear in your Donation panel that all donations are final, and do not promise you any service or product in return!ĮDIT2: It's more important that you keep all of the evidence (as I did) than it is to put "no refunds" in the panel. It wasn't about the $3.00 at that point, it was about not letting him take advantage of the way the streamer/viewer relationship works. Guess he underestimated the lengths I would go to! :) The guy was so desperate for my attention that he spent money to try to get the last word in, thinking he could further inconvenience me with a chargeback. It felt good to win against a jackass trying to abuse the system. Long story short - I woke up to my $3.00 safely nestled in my PayPal account. (This is the important part you should take away from this thread.) I included a screencap of my donation panel explicitly stating that all donations are just that: donations, and are not refundable. The chargeback claimed that he "did not receive the service he ordered". ![]() I did all of the following, and recommend you do too:Īnd wrote out a 4 paragraph message to him letting him know I would be escalating it, documenting every single thing that happened and showing him that I had proof. #Twitch.tv payment was refused for security reasons how toI've had a little amount of chargebacks in the past, so I knew exactly how to handle myself. ![]() I move on with my stream, and what a surprise, the guy filed a chargeback. Within 1 minute he donates, continuing the stream of shit talk and I basically say "thanks for the money" and ignore his comment. He came to my stream after the game and harassed me (truth be told we were shit talking each other), I then said enough is enough and banned him from my stream. Long version of the story: I streamed a game with a player that was unhappy with my performance in the game, despite us winning it. So TL DR this happened yesterday (WARNING: language): ![]()
